| Im not sure what other types of silicone can be used. But if it were my tank I wouldnt use any silicone except for the kind specificlly designed for aquarium use. If it doesnt say safe for aquariums please dont use it.

| The only silicone to use is the stuff specifically made for aquariums. All the others have biocides & mildewcides which are harmful to aquatic life. Also not all silicone is rated for 100% water immersion - you need to read the label. DAP used to make a standard silicone that could be used in aquariums however I haven't been able to find it locally any more. Most silicones will say "Not intended for aquarium use".

| So they put less in it and charge you more, isnt that the american way?Sort of like charging 3$'s a month to NOT put your # in the phone book lol. |

| Make sure that every last scrap of old silicone is gone and the glass is very clean (no solvents). A 1/4 inch bead should be enough.Lowes sells a little tool that makes a perfect seam for about 2$'s. |

You are correct !!! GE I with the "BLUE LABEL" window and door is okay to use, dont use GE I with the red label though, it has some kind of mildew stuff in it without the bio seal logo.. GE II is not okay, it has the "bio seal" logo which is some kinda anti mildew stuff.. I've used GE I a few times, my 90's sump was done with it and my tank is fine.. here's a pic of the correct GE stuff ![]() |

| Keith, word of caution - GE does not recommend their silicones for any constant underwater use because over time the bond can fail GE Sealants and Adhesives - Residential Application Questions Your best bet is still to use the silicone specifically designed for aquariums.

| I would use the sutff made for aquariums. i used it for on my tank and it worked i had no leaks. So i would diffently say use the all-glass aquarium silicone. |
