Default make shift lights?

allright, so at wal mart i saw growlights on the clearance rack. So, i now have 2 75 grow lights and a 15 watt aquarium light. do you think this enough lighting for shrooms? Im not sure about the grow lights, will they provide enough light? and also, the water will only be a few inches deep being that it will be in my fuge/sump/ frag tank

IMO that should be plenty of light. As a matter of fact I have a ricordia in my fuge about 4 inches in the water with a 20w strip light over it and its doing quite nicely.

You might want to do some research into the grow lights. I read somewhere that those lights arn't very good for aquariums due to the type of light they put off.

Most of the grow lights I have seen are about 5700k which is the color of natural sunlight.Dont ask me how I know this lol. There is a lot of evidence to prove that the best coral growth happens under 6500K lights. I dont think anyone has tested 5700K lights because they are not normally used in the hobby(the nice word for obsession lol).My bet is that you will be suprised at how well they work.

Can you get a smaller bulb? 150 watts in a closed space is going to be pretty hot.

no, ya know what, the grow lights put off a lot less heat because thye are made with such low power usage. I have 2 70w lights and a 15 under my tank for my fuge, and there is almost no heat at all!

anyone everyuse the new flourescent twist tubes (screw in) over a reef or atank at all, they have low watts with high lumen output. i know they work good for lighting on other green thumb projects but I am alittle bit worried that in a marine tank these lights might make the green algae grow faster, They make green house & garden grow fast any thoughts on these bulbs
