I am working on a uninterrupable power supply for aquariums where you can program each outlet from your computer. Basically what I have in mind is setting up 3 outlets for lights where you can pick an island and have your lights follow the yearly sun cycle for that island. So if you wanted to simulate a reef in Tahiti you would pick that on your computer and your lights would cycle based on the time of year and day for Tahiti. The other 3 circuits could be programmed for pumps to constantly change water flow in you tank or for chillers and heaters based on digital thermometers hooked up to the UPS. The UPS itself could come in various sizes that could give anywhere from 30 min. to 3 hours of power during a power outage.

Does anyone have any thoughts on something like this? Would you buy one?

During a power outage I don't care about my lights. I care about my heater in winter & pump to keep the water moving.

You could program the outlets to respond in any manner you wanted during a power outage. If you wanted just chiller or heater then you would only program those outlets to stay active.

Thats what a UPS (Uninterruputible Power Supply) is for. I use em on all my tanks and computers. I have one that will run pumps a heater for 48hrs, not so worried about lights as I am the the filters and temp.
