I think the pipes may be a little large on a 12g.

what will you do if the power goes out? there will be a continuour siphon, then eventually the siphon will break. then when the power goes back on, water will go into the main tank and there wont be a siphon anymore

i was going to set it so the top tank will just free flow in to the 10 and so if the power dose go out it will drop down pass the tube and once it comes back on the pumps will fill the tank back up so it starts free falling once more

ok so i guss i need to go over some stuff....
1. will the free fall of water be able to make it up and over the glass to the live sand and up and over to what i was thinking some bio ball's drop down the holes to the pump?
2. do i need 3/4 going to the fuge and 1/2in pluming coming back to the tank?
3.what size pump will i need for the return?
