Default MY stand build

Some people wanted me to add my stand to the DIY threads, so here it is.

I got some plans online, originally for a 135g tank. I started out by following the plans but then wanted to go in a slightly different direction for more support.

Here are a few things you will need to make the stand. (7) 2"x4", a cordless drill, tape measure, saw, a tank, screws, a plan and a few hours of time.

I also had a heater in the garage becuase when I built it, it was about 37 degrees.

You need to cut (4) pieces of 2x4 the length of the tank +1". Then cut (4) more pieces the depth of the tank -the width of (2) 2x4's.

screw them together, add a little support and this is one corner.

Add a few more corners together, and you get this for the top fram of the stand.

And here is the bottom frame.

Now, for the legs of the stand they only called for a single 2x4 on each corner then one in the middle front and back. This is where I decided to change the plans and well......just look at the pic and you can see what I did.

Then you make it that way in each corner and add a single 2x4" piece in the middle front and you are done.

I made the stand 35" tall because I am a pretty tall guy and bending over to see inside the tank all the time is a pain.

I had to rearange my room a bit in order to find a spot for the stand and tank, which is why there are wires all over the place.

Eventually, I will get some nice wood and stain it and cover that up so you wont even be able to see the 2x4"'s

Very nice! Looks like you used some better quality wood than I used.

It's amazing what you can do with $20 in materials! I was thinking of staining it. I still have some stain left from when we redid the floors. But I'm not sure this would would take it very well. Besides I kind of like the raw look given that this is a QT tank.

Before I put mine in the basement, I was gonna put some nice finishing pllywood in it and stain it. Make little doors and everything, nice trim. But it is in a little "fish room" so I do not need it to look nice.
