Would this work as a sump?

I have designed a sump (cheapest way possible)

Here is what i am thinking these are pics of the aquarium and design.
this will be a pump system...one pumps out of my tank and the other pumps out of sump into tank would this work? I would need two pumps of the same power? or a lower duty pumping in sump and higher pumping out? I think it would be the latter more pumping back to display since it has to travel up right?

my diagram says 2.75 in high for intake that goes in corner and it is a 2.75 in square in that corner

Also it ended up being a 10 gal sump...small for now if this works...big later

I wouldn't pump from the tank down to the sump. That's what gravity is for. Get yourself an external overflow box or have the tank drilled & install an internal one. The overflow will remove the garbage from the surface of the water. Size of pump depends on how high you'll be pumping the water from the sump to the tank. Most pumps will tell you what the head distance is that they will pump. Also need to know how much volume you intend to be moving per hour.

As glampka said Do not pump water to the sump.
Pump water from the sump back to the main tank or you will flood the sump on to the floor.
What size tank and sump do you have? Tank system as to over flow back to the sump? You do not need a big pump to pump water from sump to tank. I have a 75 and have a pump that is 250 gph. and two 1200 max-jet in tank for flow needed in tank.
You do not need alot of water cycling from sump. The slower the water going thought the sump the better the skimmer will work also.I had a 950 gph pump pumping water from the sump to the tank and it worked ok but I as was told and read then I put a smaller pump per gal in the sump a 50% higher skimmer works better as slower water mowment taking more organics out .

250 gph pump is ok for heater in sump you have to set it higher anyways to get the temp you need in tank plus the more water more noise you have. What size is main tank?
Always use two heaters if it calls for 300 watt get two 150's why if one goes out you have a backup. It happen to me and fish died. And all the persons and books call for two.
