Default filter question

ok I have a emp. 400 or something like that biowheel filter on the back of my tank, as well as a tidepool2 system under the tank. I have taken the biowheel in the tidepool out and replaced it with LR. I have a PS in the tidepool as well. I will be doing a refugium down the line, with sand and cheato under the tank, taking the tidepool system out. I was wondering would I still need to have the emp. 400 filter on the back of my tank still or can I take it down. I think it has added the microbubbles to my tank. or is there a way to stop the microbubbles while keeping all the filter systems I have. I know the more filter systems the better.

If you have a protein skimmer, live rock and the wet/dry filter I dont see a need for the hang on filter

More is not necessarily better. The protein skimmer is the most important piece of equipment. Next, is the refugium. If everything is balanced then there's very little else you need. Additional equipment means additional maintanannce. In other words, if you have a cannister filter, you have to be consciencious to clean it regularly or it can generate nutrients and cause algae problems.
