| ok something like this http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...or~~tab~4.html is what i want but i dont want to have to press a button just in case i am not home so i was wondering if theres was a Portable GFCI that would be able to turn on again after 5 minutes or so instead of having to push a button. and whats a good grounding probe cause i think i may need one but now i am doubtful cause of this article ... Aquarium Grounding Probes and please read this thread on the rio pump WHATS the deal with them i just got one for my sump but now its makeing me doubt it cause it says it causes fires !!!!!! ( its the same as the grounding probe if you want to read it from the start then just click page one) Grounding probe? - Page 2 - The Reef Tank

| GFCI outlets are designed to kill the power incase something is wrong. Nobody makes ones that come back on without manually pushing a button since it would defeat the purpose of having a GFCI outlet. I don't use grounding probes. Some people think that they help eliminate stray voltage from a tank. Other people think that they make things worse by creating a closed circuit. I think many more people used them years ago than they do these days, maybe partly because people feel safer because of having GFCI outlets and better technology. Regarding Rio pumps, the old ones were junk. They would burn up and release oils and other toxin into your tank. I've seen it first hand more than once. The new onces (within the past couple of years) are supposed to be much better and not contain oils within the pump. I would feel comfortable using the Seio pumps, but not any of the Aqua Pump series since those are the line of pumps that I have seen issues with.

| You can put one or two critical pieces of equipment (one powerhead and one heater in the winter) plugging into a non-GFCI outlet while you are on vacation or, better yet, have them plugged into separate GFCI outlets on different circuits. The Rio issues are supposed to be fixed and Rios website even says new and improved (or something like that), but only time will tell if they are really fixed.

| I always prefer to wire the GFCI outlet directly into the circuit instead of using the plug in type ones so you don't need to worry about water getting in between the GFCI plug and the outlet, but if that isn't an option, I've used ones similar to that one on smaller and some freshwater tanks and am still around. In total, they've probably been tripped about 3-4 times, all due to stupidity on my end while messing with the tanks and never while I was gone and the tanks were left alone.

| what stipidity triped it ? and yea this is my only option a portable one o and if water gets inbetween them isent that what its for to stop the electtricity flow so why would it be a problem ???

| Stupidity like bumping a heater and breaking it inside a tank and dropping a light fixture into a tank. The other couple of times was from having too many things plugged into the powerstrip that was connected to the GFCI outlet and when the high amp items turned out, it would pop the GFCI. I don't run anywhere near as many cords per GFCI outlet anymore. If water got into the plug (or powerchord plugs) on the front side of the GFCI device, it will trip. If water gets in between the GFCI device and wall outlet, it will not trip. Most people that have water get into a powerstrip or plug is because it is either on the floor, doesn't have a drip loop, or isn't installed vertically so water can run into the outlet. The connection at the wall (or any other plug, theoredicaly) should never have water get into it.

| o ok so like its unsafe to plug one surge protector into the other then into a GFCI outlet ???? and can you help me out with another issue http://www.reefbuilders.com/forums/e...hink-best.html Thanks

| Yes, although in my case, it was too many high wattage pieces of equipment into a single purge protector that was plugged into a GFCI outlet. GFCI outlets typically "pop" quicker than circuit breakers if overloaded. I'll check out your other thread and respond there.

| No, I'd only plug surge protector into any GFCI outlet, whether the GFCI outlet has one or two plugs.
