Default Skimmer over produces

Today for no apparent reason my super skimmer went absolutely crazy and started producing tons of foam (clean) and filled and overflowed the cup. It has over reacted before but not like this. Even adjusting it to "off" is not stopping the foam. I read on this or another forum of someone who said they weren't going to have it happen again to them so they drilled a hole in the lid and ran air line tubing to a bottle. I did this only I used a milk jug and put a hole in the cap. It isn't working (worked once) and I don't see how a siphon will be created. What am I missing here?

Skimmers can start to produce more waste if you add some additives. Thus making your skimmer go crazy. My skimmer if from life reef and if I add NovAqua plus water conditioner to the water the skimmer will go crazy for a few days. Have you added anything different?

No william I didn't. I, like you, am aware of the additive reaction or after a water change. This was strange because all I did was feed the tank (a little brine and copapods) like I have done countless times. It has settled down but is still producing a lot with the adjuster off. Do you know anything about the siphon tube part of my inquiry?

So you made an "auto drain" into your skimmer cup? Rather airline tubing to a milk jug so the skimmate has a place to go and won't overflow?

Yes, someone else said they did it and it is a great idea/theory but the siphon isn't starting.
