Can u clean filter socks? What do you use and can you just throw them in the washing machine to wash them so you don't have to keep buying them over and over....?

Yes just dont use soap.

can you get them back to the bright white when u first get them from the store... there has to be a way to wash them...

I have 2 filter socks and I rotate them daily. To wash them I just turn them inside out and hand wash takes about 4-5 min but simple hang dry and your ready for tommarow. You can soak them in bleach water for a couple hrs just rinse well.

You can wash with bleach and then use a dechlorinator in the rinse cycle after.

I hose mine off twice a week and put it through the washer twice a month. I'm going to try WILLIAM1's method

Its simple just do it by hand and once a month it would probly be good to throw them in the washer (no soap).

I put them in my cothes washer, using chlorine bleach only in the wash. (No soap, no softeners, no detergent)

Every washer is different, but I use the delicate cycle on the "heavy soil" setting. That allows for extra wash and rinse time, but doesn't beat up the socks.

After the spin cycle, I remove the socks to air dry.

I use five in my tanks and change them every week with my water changes.

Do they get cleaner with bleach are just whiter. Bleach scares me.

They get white - just like brand new after each washing.

The washing machine runs them through two rinse cycles to get the bleach out. After they air dry, the bleach is not a problem for fish or coral...

No problems in my tanks. I use a total of five filter socks at a time.
