Planning a refugium Well, I am going to add a 10 gallon refugium to my 55gal reef this December but I wanted some input on the intake and outtake of it. I have an overflow in the tank that uses a maxijet 900 to put water back into the tank from the overflow area, anything stronger that this and it pulls the water out of the overflow too fast and the powerhead dries up!
So my question is could I think i should use the mag drives for both the intake and outtake but, could I use one to take water from my overflow for the refugium? I already have some cheato in there with pods so I'd like to use that area to put water into the refugium for that reason and I'm thinking of running pipes from the overflow to the ref with the mag in the ref pulling water from it, then, the return mag being a little stronger than the other. In theory, will this work?
I know a 10 gallon isn't very big but, it's the only thing I can work with, I already tried fitting a larger container, including plastics, in my stand and the 10gal is all that'll fit! So since that's not big enough for the sump i really wanted I figured a refugium is the next best thing, especially since I'd love to add a mandarin goby in a year or so...
In the refugium, I'd basically have three areas, first, intake mag drive, baffles, then dsb w/cheato and mangroves, baffles then return mag.
I'm just concerned about how to get the water from the overflow to the fuge, then, will the flow enough inside the fuge between the two mags? I'm thinking a mag 3 for the intake (similar to the maxijet900, I think?) and a mag5 for outtake and i'd put a ball valve on the outtake in case the 5 is too fast...
