| I don't know how widespread these are, my LFS has had a custom LED lighting system made. They look like a conventional flurecent bulb with something like 128 LEDs on one side, wiring is very simple; buy plug with appropriate lengh of wire, connect one wire to one side, the other to the other. they come in 6700k 12000k 16000k and 22000k, price is 109.99 USD for one 48" "bulb" and they recomend 6-8 bulbs for an SPS tank. They have them on their frag tank. I will be using a candle meter and spectrometer on them before I purshase mine, and they are currently on backorder by the hundreds. PICS SOON. http://www.exotic-aquarium.com/ It's not on their site, there is'nt even a package for them yet. They just came out today. |

| There are getting to be more and more manufacturers that are producing "LED fluorescent tubes". They are hoping that they will eventually replace conventional fluorescent tubes, but currently they are too expansive. It will be interesting to see if they end up being a viable replacement for conventional flo bulbs over aquariums. Currently, I don't think that there are very many manufacturers that are making bulbs in the correct spectrum for over our aquariums, but it will be something to keep an eye on.

| Do a google search for "LED fluorescent tubes" and you should be able to find a lot of information about them. One thing to point out is that the light fixture needs to be modified slightly if you are going to try using one of these types of bulbs since they do not require a ballast or start.
