Default Lunar lights

What are typically used for lunar lights?

I see blue LED's a lot, but what was used prior to blue LED's?
How much light is to much?

Other optiions?

I have heard that you can use purple incadescent bulbs as well. Not sure how effective they are though. This is a link to the site where I got my lunar lights : https://www.fishbowl-innovations.com/product/moonlights

I made my own Lunar lights at school using some white and Blue LED's, breadboard, wire, used power supply, a little math, and some resistors. It took an hour or two, was very inexpensive and works great. The tank looks really nice at night. I've heard the same as mtfabel above however LED's take up less space, use less energy, and run much cooler and last an incredibly long time.

Yeah, I'm searching for LED's right now. I've found a couple of good sorces. Just need to figure out what intensity will be best for my tank. I don't know howmuch light it will take to reach the bottom of the tank.

I think I'm just going to stick with blue in the 430-470nm range.
May try some ultra violet LED's too.

I found that blue led's in the 430-470 range are what most comanies use. the white LED's I used are uv Leds. they work finr for me. How many are you thinking of using? (of each color). how are you planning to wire them? series/parallel? have you calculated any resistor values or desided on a power supply?
