 Do you need a filter? I read a lot of articles online, in magazines and books on reef keeping. I am getting a 50/50 split opinion on if you need a filter for a reef tank. Some say it's useless and a nitrate factory others say yes but carbon filter only and some say the water will get cloudy without one. What do you guys think?  |

| Re: Do you need a filter? I'm going to follow this one... I'm about to ditch my canisters that I use to supplement each tank as they also have sumps. I have noticed that when I do use a polishing pad in the canisters the water is razor clear. Love to know what other's think, I'll check back! |

| Re: Do you need a filter? The only mechanical filter I have on my tank is the foam sleeves over the 3 overflows. I clean them 2 or 3 times a week. I can see where you might want to use one to run carbon or something. |
