my idea for a 'mini' fuge (what do you guys think?) ok, after having my amphipod/bristleworm population wiped out, i decided to get some more, but here's my new plan... i've got an old powerfilter that i used in my FW setup.. it still works, but is pretty much useless. its the aquatech 30/60 (yeah, that's right, the cheap one from wal-mart!) anyway, i was thinking about using it as a fuge for my new worms and pods...its got 2 sections in which i could put livesand (about 1.5" deep, 3 x5.5 wide, and total depth of sand and water about 5" before it overflows back into the tank).. would this work at all? i'd just like a chance for pods to reproduce before they got eaten in the main tank, and i feel like with the way the water in this filter flows over, maybe several pods or worms would make it to the tank without any help, and start reproducing on their own...right now, i don't have any fish to really eat the pods and worms, so i guess i could just add them to my main tank, but if i do decide to get a fish before they become abundant, then i may end up in the same situation... and that's why i thought about the "minifuge"... is there anything i'm leaving out of the picture? or is this just a really stupid idea? oh yeah if it matters or anything, i'll be ordering the amphipod breeding kit and worms from IPSF.com... i'm getting them from there because i like a lot of their stuff, but without them, i don't have enough for the mix-n-match special.. so with that breeding kit, i'll have enough food for several months (according to them anyway)... and i think that would be PLENTY of time to populate enough pods for the whole tank... i just want some peoples' opinions |
