Default Whats in your Sump?

I have been doing some research, and just got done reading a article off of vivdi aquariums dot com. It talks about using live rock as your filter agent in your sump. Its called Euro-fil sump. Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone use this? Any recomendations as to what you use in your sump as the filter agent?

I have 20-30lbs of rubble rock in my 90gallons sump..

My 37 gal prop thats in the works will have 15lbs in the sump...

I think its a good natural filter, also houses pods and critters

First off what I have for my 55 gal is a 20 gal for the sump, It came with the plastic bio balls. When I start this tank up should I scrap them (bio balls) and use live rock instead. I am really thinking hard about getting it going soon, and I am trying to finalize some sort of plan here. I am getting worried that my Nano is going to get to full. IN about 3 months my purple mushroom has litterly over doubled in size, and the brown has grown one new one, and doubled in size. I think this would be my cheapest way to go instead of buying another tank and the set-up. It has most everything, but metal halide, and I will probably invest in that. I was thinking of taking a rock out of my Nano and adding it to others as the trickle filter in the sump of that 20 gal tank.

Yes, it would be best if you removed the bioballs and replace them with live rock. Bioballs collect detrius if not cleaned often and they only convert waste down to nitrates. The nitrates will then remain in your system until you do a water change. Live rock converts the waste beyond nitrates and into nitrogen gas which evaporates out of the aquarium quickly.

There are some people that don't like how much space and the look of having the recommended 1-2 lbs of live rock in their main display. Adding the LR into your sump is one way to get around having so much LR in your display tank, yet keeping the recommended amount of LR in your system.

Thanks Kentanner11, Krazy K, and pogodzib for your replys. When I start-up my 55 gal I will use the sump as a place to store live rock I will just count that as part of the 55 gal like an addition. Iam having such good luck so far on my nano I want to start it up. I think it will be a great tank when it is done.
Thanks Randy
