Default new filter confusion

I am looking to upgrade my filter system. I'm not sure if I should go with a canister filter, wet dry filter or both. People are talking about sumps and I am not sure if I need one of these too. I have a 54 gallon bow front tank, undergravel filter with power head, protein skimmer and quick filter attached to a Hagen 800 power head. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Nina

Loose the undergravel they cause more problems then good. Wet dry in my opinion is the best i will be switching as soon as i have the available funds. Canisters are usually nitrate factories because most people dont clean them enough or well enough. If you get a strong canister filter and clean it enough you could go this route but a sump with LR filtration and a fuge is the best

Thanks for the advice I am planning on changing the undergravel system over when I move my tank.
Thanks again
