noisy overflow

Can anyone tell me how to minimize the loud trickling sound that occurs as the water enters the overflow box?? I am a beginner, and don't have a clue. Any help would be appreciated.

If your tank is drilled and have a built in overflow box in your tank a great cheap idea is to cut a peice of course sponge to a size a little larger than you overflow box and wedge it in place into the box but so its no touching the water. Also if you have a ball valve on the return to your sump back it off a little. If you are still having trouble let us know and we will try and helpwith a couple more methods.
I know how much it can drive you mad with that constant bubbling noise:mad:

Thank you for your replies. My overflow box hangs on the side of the tank. I am getting a loud trickling sound where the water enters the tubing that takes the water down to the sump. My equipment came with a round porus sponge that I have positioned around the opening. That does not seem to do the trick as far as mimimizing the noise. The local fish store told me to insert a brush into the hole..that way the water can still enter the tubing. I just held the brush in place and it did seem to stop the noise, but I am worried about the brush being pulled down into the tubing. There has to be some type of adjustment I can make with the sponge..it seemed to do better temporarily when I pushed the sponge down, but the problem continues as I write..sorry don't know the name of the manufacturer of my equip. offhand,,I will look it up and post it when I know. In the meantime, any suggestions would be appreciated..it is driving me a bit nuts!.(

Default Gurgles Be Gone!

I had same problem with my plumbing to the basement my tank kind of gurgled every once in awhile. Where the water enters my sump was about a 3/4 inch opening i reduced it to a 1/2 inch opening and the tank no longer gurgles.

Default noise

I had the same problem with my tank, I put a 1/2" tube in the overflow tube and the noise went away, basicly you need to reduce the opening so it don't suck in air.
