Default sump refugium help

Ok guys I have run into a bit of a space issue. The stand that I have doesn't offer very much room. So it looks like for a sump I can use a 10g tank that I will then feed into my Refugium that would also need to be a second 10g tank. This is for a 120g tank. I would have a Euro rs-80 protein skimmer that would feed the refugium and then I guess from there I would place my rio 2100 pump in the refugium to bring the water back up to the tank.

My concern is would that be too small of area for the sump/refugium for my tank. I think the only other option is to have a custom built tank or maybe building my own.....

I mean I have nearly 6 feet of length but the way the stand is built I really only have about 10" unless i rest it up a bit higher in which i can gain a whopping 2".... (yes sarcasm). So give thoughts on going with 2 10g tanks or going through the effort of building my own. I will do the 2nd one if it doesn't look like the first will work.

I am very new to this whole sump/refugium thing so trying to get my head wrapped around it.

Thanks for your time.

If you are going to use to 10 gallon tank I think what I would do is run the majority of the water to the main sump. I would try and only allow about 25% of the water to pass through the fuge. So set it up so that the fuge drains into the same area as the pump. This will allow the fuge to have more time in contact with the water. This is all assuming you are going to have some type of macro algae in your fuge.

beleive it or not, i am in the exact same problem that you are in, except i have a 55g.

i decided to build my own sump/fuge with 2 10's. here are some pics.

I took the sides of of each 10g tank and glued them together.

you need to glue them while they are under your tank, otherwise it wont fit. when you get the 10g tnks, they have black plastice around the edges, you need to take it off, but be very careful not to crack the glass like i did. also, dont cut yourself like i did. use silcon tank sealer, thats what i used, and it worked wonders.

Yes I will be using some macro algae, so from my sump I would create a T that would have two flow adjusters giving the majority of the flow going straight to the return pump and giving 25% to go into the refugium and the refugium would then simply overflow into the return pump area. Sounds good.

Thanks for the photos I may try that or I am thinking I may simply go get some plexi and try to make my own refugium/sump. Going to try to research it today.
