Default Question about megaflow

Can I just replace the bio balls with live rock rubble and let the water run over the rocks just like the bio balls or do they need to be submerged???

Looks like it's a wet/dry with a sump. You can replace the bioballs with LR rubble. Just like a trickle filter they don't need to be submerged.
