Default Seaclone 100 Skimmer

Is the Seaclone 100 Skimmer a good choice for a 29 gallon? Has anyone had any personal use of this product? I found one for about 64 dollars.

Default I used one

It is ok for a Lowend Skimmer. I had trouble keeping it adjusted But i would look at a prizm by red sea for the little bit more money you will be much happier with the prizm! I am working on my 3rd skimmer now 2nd was a excalibur which also hard to adjust now using berlin deluxe by red sea

Most of the low cost skimmers are nothing more than a way to inject more air into the water column. They don't skim a lot of junk out. What do you want to keep in your 29 gallon? If you want a few small fish and some mushroom anemones than a SeaClone will be fine. The Prizm probably is an improvement, but you are going to have to spend about $200 for a good skimmer.

the sea clone also puts a lot of air bubbles back into the tank makes it look cloudy I wasn't happy with mine.

I have a 30 gal & I'm using the Bak Pak 2 which I prefer over the Prizm. Found that my tank water level had to be too low with the Prizm.

I know this is a little later. But I have a seaclone 150 for my 30 g tank I think it does fine if you adjust it right you wont get to many air bubbles. I think it works good but that is only my opinion.

I have been using the SeaClone Protein Skimmer for almost a year (75 gal) with no problems. There are times when bubbles are released, but that's usually when I have done some maintenance and it will clear up overnight with a little air-injection adjustment.

The Seaclone is junk in my opinion. The constant adjustment of the Venturi valve, which completely broke by the way after 6 months; and the way the bent arm seal was broken everytime I cleaned the skimmer(so I had to keep resealilng the defective joint w/ silicone every cleaning) caused me much consternation. I'm just starting a 20 g and just purchased a coralife super skimmer 65 g needle wheel impeller for $88 delivered @ That petplace.com you should see the skimmate this thing puts out, I never realized what a REAL skimmer was supposed to do. Don't waste your time or money on the SEaclown.

Yeah, buy a completely different skimmer. In my opinion, and from everything that i have read/heard, these things are the bottom of the line. I have a 100 model on my 55gal and it has never produced anything i would consider skimmate. The better skimmers on the market are the Euro-reef and ASM, expensive but efficient.

But if you can't afford these, like me, and are stuck with what you got, you could always try a mesh mod on the impeller. I've never done it but have seen some forums where people swear by it. Also, make sure that the intake is submerged at least 2in or again nothing will happen. Also, make sure there are no air pockets on the arc of the tube that leads the pump to the cylinder behind the tank. Adjust it so til they go away, and open the valve as much as possible before it comes back. You could try to get an air pump and a wood stone and drop it in the skimmer itself. Again never tried it but it would increase the amount of bubbles in the skimmer body. Good Luck

For the air released back into the tank I used a sponge prefilter off of a powerhead and stretched it over the discharge spout. I stopped the bubbles fro m getting into my tank.

This a Option if this is all your budget will allow and I think there are better options. This was the first Skimmer I ever owned and if this is the only Skimmer you have ever had what do you have to compare it too. IMO this for beginners and fish only systems!
