Default skimmer question

I filled my tank with water, live rock, and live sand about 10 days ago to begin cycling, and put in a used AquaC Remora hang on skimmer. The skimmer has yet to produce any foam at all. Is this normal? The collection cup has just a trace amount of discolored water in it, but absolutely no foam. This is my first skimmer, so I'm not sure if there is just nothing to skim yet as the tank is "fresh", or if I've got something wrong on the skimmer. Any suggestions?

I would think with it cycling that the skimmer should be working overtime, If it was me I would try and adjust it.

You will get some more replys soon,

John

my "DIY" skimmer out of plastic water bottles produced about 12 fluid ounces of smelly dirty water in about 6 hours.

was just a pain

The amount of foam will depend on the amount of waste that needs to be taken out of the water. If you bought cured rock, there will probably be little die off resulting in little waste. Once you start putting some livestock in the tank you should start seeing an increase in the amount of foam produced.

Thanks again Gary. I do have cured live rock, and there has been very little die off thus far. (ammonia and nitrites have yet to spike) Sounds like I'll get a bit more foam when everything kicks in.
