Its perfect. I know from first hand. Just a little correction using the mag drive makes it skim a tank size of 150g. You cannot use that skimmer on your sump though. I personally would wait until I got a sump and then purchased the Urchin series so you would never have to see it...

Yeah I know I will have to buy a new skimmer once I put the sump in, but I am building the sump from scratch and dont want to depend on it or its completion to put a skimmer in. And money isnt that big of a deal.

Many people like to up-size their pumps by one size above teh max recommended pump on all lines of the AquaC skimmers. The skimmer you listed is a very good skimmer, but it functions even better with a Mag 5 on it, although Mag pumps are large.

I have the remora C, and actually like having it as a visible HOB unit.

Every time I look at the tank, I see it which reminds me to empty it.

If it was underneath in a sump, i could see myself being mesmarized by the eventual beauty of the tank and not emptying it as frequently.

Also, you should look into the pre-skimmer box. Its supposed to increase the efficiency significantly. However for me, I'm having issues getting it on and adjusted right with the little set screws. So I'm looking for an alternate way to attach it.

But once it gets on, it looks like it should make the skimmer work better.

Just wait until your sump is built. Take your time dont waste money. Do what you want the first time around. Also I would check with AquaCs customer service before you put on a larger pump. Dont you think if the inventors of this specially designed skimmer thought it was benificial to use a larger pump would have?

Many people have called and talked to Jason and Steve at AquaC about using larger pumps. If you want, I may even have an e-mail saved from Steve saying that you can use a larger pump and it will improve the performance but you may need to throttle it back slightly with a ball valve. The reason that they don't list the larger pumps on their website as a recommended pump is because you MAY need to throttle them back slightly and they are trying to make their skimmers run off of the smallest & most efficient pumps possible, rather than advertising there skimmers as needing large, bulky pumps to push the water through their patented injector system. One of their main selling points is the efficiency of the skimmer.

BTW - I am not saying that a large pump will be necessary as many people have great luck with the Mag 3 pumps running the Pro version. I just know that there are a ton of people running Mag 3 on standard Remoras, Mag 5s on the Pro version, Mag 9.5 or Eheim 1262 on EV120 & EV-180, etc... because of the improved performance they get. I used to have the standard Remora and still use an EV-150 so I know AquaC skimmers very well.

That weird because I call like 2 weeks ago and asked and they told me I couldnt do that. I do have the regular sized urchin. I wanted to upgrade from the crappy maxi jet to something bigger and the tech told me that skimmer was designed for that pump and i shouldnt change the pump out.
