| Most people leave the moonlights on at all times since they are a low power and long lasting light. If you want, you can put them on a timer as well and only have them on at night. No the tank doesn't need total darkness, nor does a tank need moonlights. Moonlights are pretty dim, just like it is in nature so your fish still have their rest period without the big guns shinning down on them.

| So either way im fine. They can be on or they can not be on and its not going to hurt anyone??? Right now my main 2 lights are on 6-1/2 hours a day because im trying to control a algae problem. They will go back to 8 hours once that clears up. The rest of the time is divided with blue moonlight and darkness. So as long as this isnt going to stress anything out or kill anything im happy. Thanks
