Default Red Sea Prizm Deluxe Skimmer

I bought this skimmer as I was told it worked well, it does do the job but I have a few questions:
Is it normal for this skimmer or any skimmer to be kinda noisy? And are there any tweaks to help quite it down?
What are the proper settings? I try to go by the manual and keep the water line just even with the O-ring but the settings vary from time to time and I have to keep adjusting it, after a few weeks the adjustments are further apart.
I bought this skimmer for its compact size as space was an issue with me, after 1 1/2 weeks of running the cone was black, so I'm happy with the results, but it’s noisy.....

I'm guessing the lfs told you it worked well! IMO, the Prizm isn't the best skimmer. You're pretty much stuck with the noise. Most HOB skimmers do have a noise issue.

Depending on size of your tank it may or may not work well. I've been using prism pro on 55(barely adequate imo) for 2 years.I think they rate this for 2 or 3 hundred gallon's. They need to be tinkered with constantly it seems. Try cleaning neck out once a week to help with consistently.Mine also can get noisy sometimes. 1- unplug 2-turn water flow full for couple seconds 3-disassemble clean impeller One of these usually works. You probably guessed I start with 1.
