Default used tank

Hello, i am a newbie and have been looking for a tank. I saw at my local petco store have an used 90g tank with stand and canopy, wet and dry filter and protein skimmer, two power heads and light. They said the system was used for display and now they wanna sell it for 799.00. Do you think it is a good deal for beginner. I have experienced with fresh water fish only and koi.
Thank in advance.

Hard to say since you don't say what kind of lighting & skimmer it has.

Lighting has 2 10k bulbs and two daylight bulbs with ballast and no name protein skimmer. I found at their store for the same light which is 299.00 yet can't find their skimmer in the store.
Do you think it is worth it?
Thank you again.

in this hobby i have found that you get what you pay for. something like lights and skimmers are something you don't want to be cheap on. this hobby is not cheap!!!

Sounds like the lights are 260 watts? Does the 90 gallon tank have a built in over flow?

See if you can get the name of the Skimmer and hell even see if you can take a pic and post it.

Did they run copper through it? I would be leary of buying something new much less used from petco. I have not at all been impressed with the way they take care of their livestock. You would be better off in my opinion getting a used tank that has an overflow and you know what has been run through (chemicals) it from ebay or craigslist. Then use most of the money for lighting and a protein skimmer.

what if i bought it for the tank with overflow, stand and canopy with it. Other stuffs I can use it for back up. Is it still good investment? 800 for the tank with overflow, wood stand and canopy with it? what do you think, since I don't know much how much value is depreciated for the used tank. Half or more than half?
Thank again.

I found a nice used tank at our local petco it came with a stand and they wanted 699 for it.After looking around the store for a while I found the same tank and stand new for 599.Maybe they should go into the used car business lol.

Joe, the problem here is you don't have a clue as to whether they ever medicated the tank with a copper containing treatment. If they did, forget the tank & they'll never tell you the truth because they don't know for sure.
$799 for what you're getting doesn't sound too bad but you might want to make them an offer of $599 & see if they'll take it.
Mike is right about Petco - they really don't know what they're doing. I know of a guy who was setting up a fish rescue to get fish from them that they were not taking care of.

I don't know if I would suggest it, but you can get copper out of the tank...probably would want new equipment.

CuRemovalFAQs

Given, you would not know the type of copper used, so you would need more than one test, a good filtrartion system....

I think I got what you all suggested. Thank you all for your inputs. I think I will wait on the tank and get myself to learn more. I don't want to invest my money into something and later kill all my fishes after or get into troubles that I can't get out.
Thanks again guys and girls. You are really great help.
