Default Bio-Cube protein skimmer

has anyone bought or tried the protein skimmer that's made for both the 14 or 29 gallon bio-cube? costs around $40, fits into the intake area of the filtration system. i bought one just to try it out but dont really understand the process or if it is really working. so i guess this is a 2 part question...what is anyone's opinion on it and how does the wooden airstone bubbling in the tube, causing foam to accumulate in the top chamber do anything?? whats in the foam?

the oceanic bio-cube protein skimmer for the 14 and/or 29 gallon bio-cube. $50 was about my limit for a protein skimmer...just dont have the real funds to invest in a good one, then again..i dont really have the space for much else in my living room. the skimmer chamber does fill up with foam but is it really doing anything for me??

In a simplified explanation - the protein molecules have a water liking side & a side that doesn't like water. The side not liking water attaches itself to the air bubble & is pulled from the water. You'll have to replace the wooden air stone monthly or so.
