Default filter sock

Just set up a new 90gal mixed reef and added a sump with a filter sock.

QUESTION IS : How do you clean these socks, I got two socks with the sump so i just
installed the clean one and not quite sure how to clean the dirty one. I rinsed it out
with hot water but its's still looks dirty, any ideas????

Thanks

I've heard of washing it in 2 cycles, 1 with bleach one without.

I wouldn't use soap on anything going into my tank.

I've been using a garden hose and turning them inside out and blasting the stuff out. Did that for a few weeks. This last time I hosed them off and now have them soaking in some bleach (very little bleach) in a 5 gal bucket, then I'll go hose them off again and let them air dry. See how clean they come out. I know alot of guys run them through the washing machine, not sure if I want to do that.

I run mine through the washing machine. Warm water - NO SOAP. I have a front load washer so I dont worry about it getting stretched or pulled - but you might try it in a delicate cycle just to make sure. dont bother drying it!!

Not sure a dishwasher will do much good on cleaning something made of fabric. Let us know how it works. If using a bleach solution to clean the sock be sure to soak it in some water that has been over treated with dechlorinator to remove the bleach.
