| The valve gets hooked up by creating a hole in one of you sump's baffles (or sump itself) and then you put the float valve threads through the hole and put a nut on the back side. On the back side of, there is a opening through the middle of the threads where 1/4" tubing connects. I'd guestimate that you need 4-5" of free space behind the baffle for the tubing to connect (unless you use a very flexible tubing (not recommended due to kinking) or a 90 degree elbow) and 5-6" of free space in front of the baffle for the float valve itself.

| Is this the thing to use or is there something cheaper out there, or maybe just better.

| That is what I have used for the past 4+ years and it has never failed, but...you never know. The price was right and it's worked out good for me. My ATO setup consists of a 5 gal bucket with a I have a hole near the bottom. At the hole, I have a valve and 1/4" tubing connected to a kent float valve in the sump. When the water drops, the float valve lowers and drips my ATO water into the tank. If my float valve were to fail, I could potentially dump 5 gallons of water into the tank, but that hasn't happened to me yet and my sump can handle about 10 gallons of extra water so it wouldn't overtop anyway. I WOULD NOT connect the float valve (or any other ATO device) directly up to my RO unit because if it were to fail, you'd have an endless water supply.
