Default Glass top?

I have two marineland glass tops on my 150 gal. tall. I read somewhere on here that glass tops are not good. they leave about a 4-6 in. gap between the back of the tank and the lid...What else can i use to keep my fish in? and is it true that glass tops are not the way to go?

Hi,
Check out a thread that I started a while back. We recently discussed other options for glass tops, due to the gap in the back, and that they keep heat trapped. Go to DIY on the main Forum page. Then to.. Crossing over from fresh to saltwater with a 220 gallon. Hope it helps!!!

You can use eggcrate to cover your tank if you're worried about fish taking the fatal leap. Personally, I like to use short leashes. Anchor it to your LR & you're all set. They learn pretty quickly after 1 or 2 good yanks that they can't jump out any more.

Gary,
I also found that short leashs are the best method. I had one a little to long though...you can only imagine!

Stace,
You need to get the bungie type. That waythey're always pulled back into the tank.

I used to have a leash on my lionfish, but it was a little too long and he ended up hanging himself.

I just put on the glass top and took out a glass side. For some reason it worked and I saved a fortune on leashes.

Feed them buckshot, then they can't get up enough speed to jump out.

Elliot..Thats what happend to my fish also.. found him hanging, makes you wonder, was the leash the right way to go...hang to death..or suffocate. Now I am using the bugee as suggested to keep things safe!!

Well, when I was into leashes for my fish, I had about 9 fish and the leashes would always get tangled up so eventually I just ditched the idea. Plus I dont have too many jumpers anymore.

Hahaha, ok I think that we should give Packer back his thread! hahah. Great ideas though. Mine often get tangled, but just like dogs, that is how they learn! Soon they are going to look like a sychronized swimming tank...goin gin and out of loops, jumping into the air, getting sprung back into the tank...it will look great!

Ok Im done! hahah.
