Default Ballast switch

Got a question, does anybody know if you can switch ballasts on the Coralife Aqualight Pro I have the 48" with 150 HQI and was wondering if I can just get 250 ballasts from Coralife and change the bulbs, are the ballast plugs the same? will the bulbs fit in the sockets?

OR can you just qet 250w aftermarket ballasts like Ice Cap or PFO and cut the plug ends off the Coralife ballast and connect them to the new ballast????

I like my light but want to use 250w bulbs. this is on my new 90gal tall aga mixed reef

I got a smoken deal on the tank and light that I could not pass it up, just trying to upgrade as cheaply as possible, I know nothing about this hobby is cheap!!!!

Any advise is welcome

Thanks

If you have internal ballasts they are shaped to fit that fixture and a good bet would be that the Ice Cap and PFO ballasts wont fit inside unit.Eithewr can be used externally.I would just rewire the whole thing. As long as the bulbs are mogul based any will work. The fans in the old unit may be a problem because you are getting ready to double your heat.

Coralife aqua pro fixtures use external magnetic ballasts, and this fixture has HQI bulbs,

I have already solved the heat issue with small fans that blow across the tank.

thanks for the help.
