Has anyone out there tried the maxijet modification?

If so, did you notice an increase in water flow? Any problems?

There's a mod you can buy from Marine Depot for $19.95 ($14.95 on sale) that really increasess the flow of the MJs. Elliott bought one & could go surfing in his 55 with the flow he got out of it. Yeah, I realy could go surfing!

I moded an MJ400 and got probably close to a little over 1000gph through the mod.

The mod works good for flow and is cheap if you already have a MJ, but sometimes the modded pump will make a loud vibrating noise periodically.

that is nuts...1000 Gph..whats your turnover rate elliott...its gotta be at least 25x

well, I have a wavemaker now, so I do not use the mod. BUT my rate is roight around 33x at any given moment and it ranges from 20-40x depending on which pumps get turned on.

How does your moded mj stay in the aquarium, does it still use the brace and suction cups? Also, speaking of those suction cups, is there a trick to get them to stick?! I'm really not trying to be funny, I have two mj1200's and one of them seems to always fall during the night so when i get up, all my sand is displaced and my blenny is very mad! So am i! Anything I can do about that?

Instead of the suction cup bracket there is one that uses magnets that is supposed to stay in place.

Has anyone tried connecting the MJ to a wavemaker controller?

I saw one at my lfs for $120 but I wasn't sure how effective it would be. I was thinking about putting a modified mj on opposite sides of the tank then hooking them into a wavemaker controller. This would double my current flow in the tank if they put out ~1000gph.

I have (2) mj1200's and an mj400 all unmoded on a wavemaker. I tried the moded mj400 with the wavemaker but it didnt work that great because the propeller wasnt able to keep starting up everytime the pump would go on. I would only suggest the wavemaker with UNmoded MJ's.
