Icon8 250 watt Ice Cap electric ballast

Hi all,

I just purchased my first Ice cap ballast. I couldnt wait to install it when I came home, but after spending a few minutes wiring her up I couldnt get it to fire. I checked the connections, wires, etc and everything seems ok. Also tried different bulbs, outlets, wiring sequences, etc. BTW the bulb is a hamilton 250watt 14K. So I called the company I purchased it from and they said that if the bulb doesnt light right away not worry because sometimes it could take up to 24 hours before the bulb lights. Is this correct? I cant even get a spark on my bulb right now and its been plugged in for hours.

Thanks all,

Steve

If the company is telling you that it would kinda surprise me if it was wrong. Give it the 24 hours and then see what happens. That would probably be your best bet.

I have never heard such a thing. To me it sounds like a stall tactic. If the ballast is humming when you plug it in you may have done something wrong. If its not humming its either not working or not getting power.Recheck all of your connections.Twisting wires together and using tape to hold them together wont work.Solder or use wire nuts.

I talked to a guy at my LFS and he said that sometimes the ballast might need to run close to 24 hours before the bulb ignites so I will wait another 12 hours and see what happens, but somehow I feel that it wont work. I thought these ice cap ballasts were supposed to be great?
