Default adjusting the sump return

Hello, I have finally completed my first sump project. I am using a 20 gallon sump with the 600gph overflow from aquatraders. I have ball valves on both lines to and from the sump but am having a tough time making it absolutely perfect when it comes to flow. Is this necessary or do you adjust your water levels daily? or is the something im missing?

Thanks alot.
And thanks Elliot for the pictures you sent me earlier, setting up the sump was alot easier than I thought it would be.

Anytime

For me to adjust the pump return, I have a regular return pump and after head loss, I get around 400-450gph. Then I have a canister filter that is completely empty and I can adjust the flow with that. Soon though I will have a different return pump and will be doing a thread on that and how to plumb it.....hopefully it will be up by friday?!???!!!!!

Gieke,

I use 3 tee's from my return to adjust the flow:

One goes back into the sump, if you restrict the flow going directly to your dt you will make your pump work harder.

One goes into the fuge for flow.

The last one contols overall flow back to the dt..it's always opened all the way.

so far head loss is really not a problem, when I bought the overflow I also bought the 540 GPH pump from aquatraders and am seriously impressed with its performance, Its a odysee so I dont expect it to last to long but for now I really am impressed. I have the return wide open and the syphon hose I try to adjust perfectly but it seems to be impossible. I guess I am a perfectionist, I actually spent a little time adjusting it, (while watching the blazers and knicks on espn, go blazers!) but cant seem to get it exactly perfect, I will work on it a little more, I dont think its all that important at the moment as I dont intend on putting any live stock in the tank for two months, I am serious about doing things right and making sure everything is perfect, thanks to all the advice Ive recieved from great members of this forum. In particular to the informative posts by nativeman and Elliot, Im sure the two of you have made reefers lives easier for people that have not even registerd for this forum.
