| Just picked up an acrylic tank for dirt cheap. It is a very nice tank, unfortunately it is somewhat scratched in various places. What can I do to buff the scratches out of the tank, if that is even possible?

| My first piece advice: DO NOT use the scratch repair kit with the sand paper. I made that mistake on my old acrylic tank and spent three months of monotonous, frustrating sanding to polish the haze out. Then I ran across Novus (novuspolish). This stuff rules. Go to the hardware store and pick up two automotive buffer pads you can attach to a drill and use one each for the heavy scratch remover (Novus 3) and the other for the fine scratch remover (Novus 2), then do a final rub down with the Novus 2 to shine it up, then do the Novus 1 by hand. Make sure that the acrylic and cloth are super clean, otherwise you will find out quickly when they are not. Made my tank look practically like new. Well worth the investment and the stuff works for everything acrylic (car, storm doors, anything plastic). Only question I have is whether the tank is already filled with water. In that case, please disregard advice above and work with the sandpaper. That is, unless you want to polisht the exterior of the tank. Good luck. |
