 No skimmate I know this is a worn out topic but I have a cataline aquarium protien skimmer that just won't produce skimmate. I have adjusted the intake pump both ways multiple times. I get lots of bubbles but nothing thick enough to stay in the collection cup. It's a venturi skimmer so it should be a no brainer but it's just not getting it done.  |

| Re: No skimmate I dont have that skimmer but perhaps theirs nothing to skim presently? Theirs always been a break in period as well. I have a red sea berlin turbo, took maybe 2 weeks before I got results. |

| Re: No skimmate Ozzy is correct, there is always a break in period. Is your skimmer new? If not, did you just clean it? That will cause a "break in period again". Give it a week or two, it will be producing some good nasty brown skimmate!

| Re: No skimmate It came fresh out of the box, have had it running off & on for about a week total. So I should let it run with water just draining through the overflow & the venturi line open for a while? |

| Re: No skimmate Yes...give it all the air it can handle thru that venturi. Sounds like the break in should be over. Usually a few days. How are you adjusting the heighth of the water in the skimmer? Could just have a really clean tank too depending on your load, LR, fuge and stuff. Should get a little something out of it though. | Re: No skimmate No, there's enough bioload in the tank that it should be scumming up good. The skimmer is hanging on the fuge return side, I have a ball valve of the supply line to it & have been keeping the water level just below the collection top. The air flow tube is wide open (Came that way) the air is dependent of the amount of water going through it (more water - more air) but before I installed the ball valve the whole thing would just overflow. |
