Default Reactor media

Can I just crush up some base rock to use as the media for a calcium reactor?

The calcium for reactors is pure.I would doubt that is the case with base rock.It might work if you could get the grain size right but what else are you putting in the tank?

As far as chemicals? Not sure what you mean by "What else" I ordered the media 3 weeks ago & got an e-mail 2 days ago saying they needed $10 more for shipping to Alaska. The website asked for my zip code before it gave me shipping charges. That just pissed me off cause I've been comming home expecting to see it on the porch for 2 weeks so I told them to kiss off & refund my $$$. So now I'm back to ground zero with the reactor until I find some media.

"What else" means any stray stuff contained in the rock you crush.Ohosphates and silicates primarily.

Oh, yeah it's old live rock that has been bleached so not really sure what else it may have in it.
