Default Return Pump Help

Hi all,

I've just built a new 15g sump/refugium for my 46g. I am looking to buy a return pump but don't quite know what to go with. The return has to go about 4 feet high. How much flow do i need going through? Please direct me to a decent pump that will get the job done well. I'm a college student, so money is kinda tight and the most economical choice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Dont know what kind of set up you have for flow down to the sump but a good rule of thumb is 10 times your tank volume per hour. Doesnt have to be but thats a good start. I would recommend a Mag3 or Mag 5 pump depending on your overflow rate. You are probably looking at $40-$45. Mag pumps are extremely reliable and readily availableat most online stores. Could try Pet Solutions, Premium Aquatics, Aqua Cave or Marine Depot and others but these will give you a feeling for the cost.

Mag's are great and affordable. Also, look into eheim pumps...they are more quite and energy effecient.

I have a Mag7 that is brand new. I will sell it to you cheap. This will also save on shipping as I live in Los Osos and work in SLO.
