Default Second guessing my skimmer choice...

Help! I am second guessing whether or not I should replace my Berlin Turbo (rated up to 250gal) with an ASM G2or G3! I sound crazy to myself as I re read what I typed! But, after figuring out how to get my berlin to aggressively skim, it seems to work well, water is crystal clear and green, brown algae is down a lot. Good thing I have pods all over my tank for my lawnmower blenny!

Basically, has anyone had both of these skimmers and/or can you compare the two in how well they function? I still have the feeling the ASM will be more efficient than my berlin but, I don't want to buy another skimmer if I'd be ok with mine!

I have:

3 false percs
1 cherub angel
1 lawnmower blenny
1 brittle sea star
about 25 snails
2 peppermint shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp

kenya tree coral
yellow polyps
frogspawn

*going to be getting a red head fairy wrasse and mandarin goby will be in a couple years
Also going to have about 5 more corals added soon over time. Can my old Berlin keep up the water quality with this load in my 55gal? I will be adding a 20 or 29 gallon sump by Christmas so I'd LOVE to have a decision on the skimmer before I build the sump!

Thanks!

Hey dinor2 your skimmer sounds like its working great! If its rated up to 250 gallon you should not have a problem on your 55. When I think of load I think of how many fish are going to be in the tank since sps coral dont expell waste. Same as your polyps, kenya, frogspawn. I always say that if it aint broken dont fix it.

Ok, that's kind of why I started second guessing going with a different skimmer. If the one I have will do well in my tank (total vol after adding sump will be between 75-80 gallons) then I can do my sump much sooner rather than later and the sooner I get my sump going, the sooner my pod population is ready for my mandarin goby dragonet!

Thanks Will!

How's the carpet today? How do you like him?

Good, glad he got there safe and is doing well, resilient little guy! I'm looking forward to seeing how big he gets in your tank!

Almost been a week now, how's he doing? I'll stop pestering you about it after today! I'm just relieved he got there and in your tank!
