I was reading that you should take the glass covers off your fish tank because of the water droplets it creates makes the light lose intensity. Is this true?

Thanks

So i have been keeping FW tanks for about 10 years and i want to try SW. A friend is giving me a 55 gallon tank and i want to get it drilled for a sump. I want to build the sup myself and i was wondering could i made it out of a 10 gallon tank? Would this be big enough for the 55 gallon?

So i bought my chiller for my 95 gal tank and am excited to get it hopefully this week. So now my question is this. Can i install it from the return pump to the chiller to the tank? I have a mag 9.5 that is used to return to the tank and have a ball valve between it. Will this work? Is this a good setup for the chiller return?

Thanks

New to saltwater

I want to set up a saltwater tank. I have kept a freshwater for 10 years and grew plants and kept all kinds of different fish. I think im ready for salt water now. Just want to know if this would work. The tank is a 55 gallon. I want to get 100 pounds of live rock and a protein skimmer. I have a HOB filter that is made for a 100 gallon tank. Could i just take out the filter pads and add bio balls? I have 2 power heads i can put inside. I would like to grow some coral and i want to have seahorses and some hardy fish to start with. My lighting is 130 watts coral life. I think i have to get new bulbs for it to suit the coral. Am i heading in the right direction? What exactly does the protein skimmer do any ways?

Thanks,
Justin

Getting a chiller for next summer

I live in Arizona and it gets hot. MY 90 gal tank with a 20 gal fuge would range up to 86, so i plan on getting a chiller for next year. I would like the temp to be 78. What is a good hp to get for a chiller?
1/2, 1/3, ...1/10. I would like it to be a bit overpowered so it doesnt stay on long just to cool off. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cleaner Shrimp and ich

Hello.

Last weekend I purchased a black & white angel for my 55 FOWLR. Just this morning, I have noticed that he has several white specks on his fins and a few on his body. I have dealt with ich before, unfortunately, and REALLY don't want to have to treat the tank. Has anyone had luck with cleaner shrimp in this situation or heard of anyone who has? I have been wanting to get one for a while and this could be a good time if I got him today. Thank you for any help.

Calcium is low 300

I have a 95 gal tank with a 20 gal fuge. Its been up for about 2 months now. I test the water calcium a week after I make a partial water change(~20 gal). And it seems to be always on the low side. I did a diy kalk like this one (http://www.reefmonkey.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1266&highlight=reactor) .

Its been running for about 2 weeks now and when i test my calcium its still low.
My other params:

calcium: 300
Carbonate: 143.2
Phosphate: 0
Nitrate: 5

Not a very heavy bio load have one clown fish, sea anemonie, crabs, snails. I have live rock and live sand and my rocks are growing the coraline(purple) algae.

I'm wondering if this diy kalk isnt very efficient that its not mixing well enough. I'm thinking that the powder settles and then when the top off system goes off its not really mixing well.

I was thinking of putting an air stone through the top so that when the pump goes off it mixes it. Anythoughts on that?

Also, i've started putting turbo calcium once a week (starting today) to see if it raises it up.

Any thoughts on any of my problems in regards to the calcium level?

Thanks
