Beta Fish and Breeding

I am told that Betas..must live alone and even breeding them must be closely monitored..How do you keep the two ..male and female from killing each other?

Even though its saltwater, I sort of know the answer. You need a big tank with LOTS of cover for the female in case they don't get along at first. When I say big I mean atleast 10 gallons and you need to have pipes, plants, rocks etc. If you goggle betta breeding then you'll get some good info.

It's been done before, but every breeder I've read about on forums have said it is a big no no.

Check out bettacentral.com , bettatalk.com, and some other places.

They can really help you out with this. Since this particular forum is designed for saltwater, you won't be able to get as much help here as the other sites

I am breeding betta fish. if you need any info here is some. You need to seprate them but let them see eachother. The male will produce a bubble nest. the they will spawn if put together. 1-2 noths later they will have eggs ang hatch. I am the 2nd person to ever breed bettas in my area. (dc area)

make sure the surface is not disturbed by a filter or air pump. and protect your female by giving her a hiding place. the male will protect the nest. i suggest you remove either the nest or the parents from the tank or the parents will eat the eggs. feed the boiled egg yolk intil their old enough to eat baby food. baby brine shrimp is also good.
