Banggai (sp) are not very hard to breed. The eggs are mouth bred by the male and are big enough to feed freshly hatched brine shrimp eggs at birth. My clowns frequently lay eggs, but all 3 pairs are in different reef tanks. The fry never survive after birth because they are eaten or pulled down the sump (for some reason that's where my clowns place the eggs - never on the rocks or hairy mushrooms or anemones. Islander

Clown fish are fun to breed. I'm also breeding mandarins but I'm unable to find anyone who has had any success rearing them. When clownfish are born, they swim to the surface and must be removed immediately and put into a seperate tank. You must be there for the hatch. The hatch will usually occur three days after the eggs turn silvery, one hour after lights out. ![]()

Rotifers are small, slow moving micro-organisms that readily feed on nannochloropsis and other nutritious types of phytoplankton. You can purchase everything you need from Reed Mariculture. A rotifer starter kit is about fifty dollars and can be easily cultured following some simple instructions. I've had my cultures going for over a year. Larval clownfish don't have the necessary enzymes in they're digestive systems to break down food. Rotifers however have enough enzymes to break themselves down. Let me know when you get to the point of feeding your larvae. I may have some helpful tips. Good luck! Bob
