Default maroon clowns...

does anyone have experience breeding maroon clowns?? I have a bonded pair which have been together for 3 years now and they are inseperable...I bought them as a pair as babies...they are great to watch...always together playing or do their "household chores"...but have yet to "produce" anything lol...they have the tank to themselves with exception of snails, hermies, 2 serpent stars, 2 emerald crabs, a coral banded shrimp, 2 rock anenomes and various corals...they get along well with all their tankmates...they are always cleaning and tidying up their area of the tank...at what age are they mature enough for breeding?? any hope for this pair lolol...no biggy if nothing comes of it, would be cool though

Default Re: maroon clowns...

I have 3 pairs of clowns-tomato, skunk, and maroon. They have all mated. The maroons and tomatoes sooner than the skunks. Unfortunately, after the eggs hatch, the fry are eaten or pulled into the sump. The tomatoes always lay on the downspout right beside the sump. The maroons lay on the back glass. I'm sure the crabs and blenny eat the fry. The skunks lay on a rock under 2 large green hairy mushrooms, not sure what gets them, but there are a number of fish and crab and shrimp to eat them. Good luck if you have success with them. Have read that to successfully breed clowns that they should be in a small tank with maybe a short segment of PVC pipe for them to lay on and then you move the pipe to another small tank that is empty for hatching. Haven't tried that because I'm not sure what to feed such small fry. Banggai cardinal babies are small, but I have successfully raised them with freshly hatched brine shrimp napauli. The baby clowns are so so small - just don't know. Please post of any success you have. It would be great!
