My clownfish laid eggs jus under their anemone on the back glass and they hatched. should i leave them in the main reef or remove them to my 10 gallon with live rock?

I worried about this scenario since my clowns are flirting with each other. I did some reading on Wetwebmedia, Aquarium, Pond, Marine and Freshwater Fish, reef tanks, and Aquatics Information and other sites. If you really want to be a clown breeder, get a second job. WWM suggests letting the first batch of fry go because it is a math game. Fry hatch at night and it is best to collect them then, by the next day you probably will not see them. Your clowns will spawn again. Keep count of how many days it takes for the eggs to hatch and then siphon the fry out. Be prepared for the feedings though. They cannot eat like your other fish until they get bigger. You will need to look into rotifers, baby brine yadda yadda yadda. I read some guy's log online about what was fed, how many batches of fish he lost and how many actually survived...1 fish out of a few batches and sold to the LFS for a $15 store credit. Seems like a blast until you figure in just how much money was spent to keep that one fish alive for 6 months.

alright, I have a question.

I read that if you purchase a mated pair of clowns, which I did (Y.S. Maroons) that it is very likely that the female will kill the male while they are trying to become established in the tank, which mine did.

So what I am wondering is if I leave the larger female in the tank and add several, much smaller Y.S. Maroons, will the larger female kill them as well, or will she eventually pick a mate from the smaller ones?

Ok, from what i know, it is usually not a good idea to have more than 2 clownfish in a tank unless you have a very large tank. i think it is better if you buy a new small pair and wait until they mature and pair off. and yeah i have heard of a lot of pairs that when you change them from tank, they will kill each other. im sorry you lost your male.

If you do decide to actually take them out and end up with a bunch of little clown fish i am assuming i am not the only one but i would really like to see pictures. That seems really cool to me.

I'm just wondering how the pet store can acclimate them as a mated pair in small display tank but somehow it didn't work for me???

Maroon clowns are very agressive. The larger female should be in the tank first then a much smaller male can be added. A smaller male will pose no threat and cowar immediately, and thus will most likely be spared a brutal death inflicted by the female. Rearing clownfish is realitively easy but demands a lot of time for culturing rotifers, endless water changes, and setting up grow out tanks. I've lost many batches when first starting out. By trying different things and logging everyone of them,I've gotten to a point of 99% survival rate from eggs to adult. I'm also breeding mandarins which is proving to be a little trickier. From what I understand, no one in this country has done it, so who do I ask for help? Anyway I have a few hundred babies at this point and they're almost big enough (at 5 weeks old) to start feeding rotifers. Well good luck and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
