I've never heard of it happening in captivity.

Try to google "tang breeding" or something of that nature and see what it pops up..

I have seen an article were they collected info from different places. I think they said that it has to do with the moon. the male will defend a teretory and try to attract females.
the babys eat planktonic foods and grow spines.

If i were going to attemp breeding them, i would get at least 180g tank with about 5 to 8 tangs. and maybe even natural light. i would give them lots of rock but with plenty of swimming space on top. Then they might lay eggs. IMO no fish are impossible to breed, you just have to know how to breed them. Breeding them sound expensive doesnt it?

i have a freind, sal. he has all the things you listed.

this is his tank 470g, 1500lbs of lr, tons of swimming place, all lights, 6yellows and still no breeding.

i think you will need at least 20 tangs to get them to breed.

He didnt have natural light did he? I Just know it has to do with the moon so maybe if he places his 470g tank outside there will be some action. lunae lights dont fool tangs.

It has been known for years that lunar cycles cause many animals and fish to breed, even in humans women have there moon cycle(as it was called in the last century. But its well proven that it isnt the moon light that causes it but tidal pull.It would be really cool if someone could breed tangs in a home aquarium, but please please whatever you do,dont hold your breath lol.

First of all mario,as far as I am aware it only happened in one aquarium.Second of all the tidal pull happens over the entire surface of the earth equally. That means in your tank,in the pond down the street and in the ocean. The effect varies depending on the moons location over the earth. It is theorised that the tidal pull may aid in setting off both volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. The probabal reason that the atlanta aquarium had them breed was a very large tank and natural sea water. All of this information is contained in research you could have done yourself.

You would need atleast 100+ with a polycarbonate ceiling for natural lighting, not be in the city so you can the benefits of the lunar cycle.

The GA aquarium isnt your typical aquarium, and there is no need for people being a butthole about it cause that happened fairly recently, and I have only seen it mentioned in one tv show, not the news or anywhere on the web.
