I dont know the name of it, but when becky made the library, there should be a link in there that explains the pros and cons of a few different medications......if its not there, I dont know where I saw that article. Maybe the drs foster smith magazine? I dont have too much time right now, otherwise I would look for you and post the link here.

Jim, I have no personal experience but my reading seems to suggest that it is directly related to diet and water quality. Something going on there that needs to be checked I would guess. I think it can be reversed by taking care of whichever of those happens to be the root cause and a good diet upgrade, Selcon, Garlic etc. Things that will boost immune system.

He gets all those things now and has for over a year. Including Metronidazole with its food.

I will say that while the fish has always seemed healthy from the day I brought it home over a year ago it has always exhibited stringy poo which in my understanding can mean an internal parasite. Im wondering if this could place stress on the fish causing HLLE?

does it eat chaeto or anything stringy like that? my tangs poop are always stringy because they both munch on the chaeto in my tank.
I have read from certain websites that feeding herbivores macro like gracilaria, ulva and other nutritious macro can prevent HLLE. But I can't confirm anything since I have no experiences with HLLE. Sorry to hear Jim.

I certainly dont want the fish to get worse and if I had another treatment for it I would use it. The fish doesnt seem to be getting worse just not better either. Other than the defects on its head Id say its normal I will be patient and see what happens over the next few weeks in QT.

Thanks Teri...some karma to ya
