Icon5 Help with new blue spot Jawfish

I just added a blue spotted jawfish to my tank. Was eating at LFS. Ate great last night 3hrs after being acclimated to tank and ate today. Now it has increased respiration and is constantly moving its body (really fidgety).

Any ideas or am I just paranoid? The water parameters in the tank are good.

Thanks for any help.

Hey Brain, I just lost an Anthias a few days ago that would never eat anything. I have tried everything there is to try feeding him and it wouldn't eat. But it died about 2 months after I bought him, so he must have been eating something. Lethargic breathing is the first sign of trouble you will see, telling you that you may encounter a problem soon. Whether or not the fish is eating is even more of a concern though. Although my Neon Cleaner Goby is very fidgety and will sometimes roll to the side and back on a rock repeatedly, most of the time its nothing to be concerned about. Observe the Jawfish for awhile, taking note of the interactions between the other fish and it. If the other fish stay away from it then it may be sick or not welcomed yet, therefore meaning the fidgety display he does could be a body language sign to the others. Lethargic breathing however means that the fish is very stressed in its new habitat. What are you feeding your Blue Spotted Jawfish? What other fish are in the Tank with it?

I'm feeding him frozen mix of brine and mysis shrimp. There are no other fish in the tank, he was the first one (as was recommended because of how hard they are to acclimate into a busy tank). The live rock and snails came from a tank that was up 8 months, and my tank has been up 3 weeks with water parameters perfect.

BSJF are more difficult then people think, My first one died and it was doing the same things yours is. The increased respiration is bad. Its hard to say what is wrong with him without more details, is he eating now? How are you testing everything? On a side note i think brine shrimp is crap and holds very little nutritional value, it will ultimately lead to algae issues as well...

I agree with fun brime is a treat and acts as ruffage much like lettuce for us. Sorry to here about your jaw they are my favorate in my tank, hope all works out well. PS you may want to consider using a liq. garlic to the food or if you haven't tried cyclops yet that may help. Good Luck
