Icon5 QT Tank and Tangs

Hi, I'm now going through the punishment of not having a QT tank when I introduced some tangs. Anyway, now ich is beginning to emerge in my tank and I am about to set up the QT tank.

What I need to know is how many tangs can I keep in a 10 gallon tank for 2-4 weeks?

Thanks,
Poppinthekap

P.S. I have 5 tangs, and lets just say the ich gets around pretty quick.

Ouch. I wouldn't recommend putting more than one Tang in a 10g QT, even that is pushing it pretty tight. Do you have a friend with an empty tank to borrow or one for sale/use close around? I would check out Craigslist in your area to see if you can scoop a good deal up on a 40g+ breeder for cheap. Don't forget to starve your main display for at least a couple weeks to kill off the parasites (maybe a little food for the inverts.)

I have a 20L q-tank and think that is a good size for anyone that wants to temporarily keep a larger fish such as tangs in it. You'll be able to keep 2-4 in it for a short time if they aren't real big and you monitor the water quality carefully. As for treating your fish, you will want to remove all fish from your main display tank and leave it fishless for 6+ weeks so that the ich parasite will die off. During that time, you should be treating all of your fish in the q-tank and then wait another 6 weeks after the last sign of ich to make sure it doesn't come back. Trying to make this process any quicker can very easily result in ich reappearing once they are reintroduced back into the main tank.
