I would recommend going the route of obtaining a formalin solution at your lfs.

Black spot responds very well to fresh water dips too. Make sure you adjust temp, and ph and dechlorinate the fresh water, then a quick 1-5 min dip will knock the blackspot off.

i read a few posts about the freshwater dip. im using plain RO water with no buffers or salt or anything, just plain water. same temp as tank. that be okay. ive done freshwater dips before but that was with tap water with no chlorine. only problem is not i have a water softner. didnt think the tang would like that to well. im treating the QT tank with maracyn 2 and he now has what looks like a fungal infection. it looks like his "skin" is pealing? im confused. im not that good with treating fish seems how the last 10 years ive been doing this i have never had a sick fish!

thats funny lol. i was just on there before i checked on this post. neways im not sure what it is. he's lost almost all of his color and is now white. the thing is hes active eating just fine. the garlic does not seem to be doing anything for him and the maracyn is doing nothing also. i have not done a freshwater dip yet so what do you think is going on with this fish. im sorry that my camera is taking bad pics other wise i would have a pic posted lol

I was suggesting freshwater dip vs formalin for the external parasite. It sounds like there is more than just the blackspot issue going so Id be careful of either dip method as both can be stressful on an already sick fish.

well to keep everybody posted, i added coppersafe and maroxy to the QT tank. the fish are almost completely free of the ich and the tang's fungal looking infection has completely died off. im hopeing they stay this way lol. the will be in QT for another 4-6 weeks just to make sure nothing arises in that time. if all goes well they will be in the show tank at that time! any thoughts or opinions on what i could do to prevent another out break?? BTW i did not do a freshwater or formalin dip!

well everybody, the tang died tonight and the clowns are covered with "ich". guess theres only one thing i havnt tried yet, the freshwater dip. should i use tap water with all the heavy metals in it and just use a conditioner or should i use some RO water that i can just discard when done?? as i said earlier ive never had sick fish before so i dont know what the best meds would be and how to go about these dip methods. thanks for your time~!
