Default Help diagnose problem with dying clown *video enclosed*

Hi everyone,

I need a little help.... My clown has been doing fine for about a month, she's been swimming around fine, and eating with no problems, until yesterday I noticed her swimming strangly. I went to two local fish stores and told them about my problem, they told me to do a fresh water dip, and I did. I made sure the temp and ph was exactly as my tank is, and dipped her for about 4 minutes. I don't notice any difference yet. If she lives till tomorrow, I plan on doing another freshwater dip. Is there anything else I should do? And what could this be, and what could of been the cause?

tank parameters are as follows:

Temp 77 - 1 degree fluctuation usually a day
PH - 8.2
Ammo - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20
Salinity is at 1.023

Here is the video from youtube.

Thanks for any input folks.

Wow After watching your Video I hope the clown fish is still alive. Why anyone would tell you to do a freshwater dip. Just because a fish is swimming strangely. Was your fish rubbing. Was your Clown fish kind of Quivering or Shimmering with a shake in place? A clown is territorial and I am guessing has finally established it territory and shooing off other fish. that is normal if thats whats happening. Give us more information before Dipping your clown again. Does your LFS know where the bathroom is? Fish Diagnosis is tough do not take the LFS as the certified fish MD. They have not seen whats going on as much as you have so give everyone as much information as possible. I hope your fishes Swim Bladder recovers from the Dip

Well, I went and bought a 10 gallon for a quarantine. I lowered the salinity in the qt to 1.021, and I plan on buying some MelaFix tomorrow morning to see if it will help.

I agree with what jv had to say. I watched the video, and clowns can do some weird things. What I cannot see is if the fish is breathing heavy; if the fish is eating normally when fed, things that might suggest an illness.

Small update:

My yellow tang developed red splotches all over him at about the same time that the clown got sick. So, I made a qt tank, caught the clown, tried to catch the tang but wasnt able to. Anyways, as it stands right now, the clown is in qt, and I'm treating her with malifix and she seems to be doing better, she's not swimming with her head towards the bottom of the tank and her tail in the air.... she seems to be uh, leveling off

Since I couldnt catch my tang, I decided to go ahead and treat my 100 gallon with malifix also. The tang's red splotches are all gone. I'm going to carry this treatment through the week and see how it goes.

wish me luck folks... i'm gunna need it!

That could be a sign of stress. Maybe medication, but maybe not. You might want to check out Wetwebmedia, Aquarium, Pond, Marine and Freshwater Fish, reef tanks, and Aquatics Information. They have quite a few suggestions for a great many things.
You need to know your fish before you treat.
